“I’m Not Weak”—JAMB Boss Oloyede Speaks on Emotional Moment During UTME Glitches

Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has stated that his emotional collapse during the process of admitting to the errors that occurred during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was not an indication of weakness.

Additionally, he stated that it was not a justification for him to neglect his obligations.

In response to complaints made against JAMB for the technological issues that plagued the most recent UTME, he responded on Wednesday.

Oloyede recently acknowledged that it contained a small number of mistakes that had a detrimental effect on the results of applicants who took the UTME in 2025.

Additionally, keep in mind that the majority of candidates who took the UTME complained of widespread failure once the results were announced.

The incident forced JAMB to hire IT specialists to look into what went wrong.

“What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,” Oloyede said.

More than 1.5 million of the 1.9 million applicants who took the UTME are said to have received scores below 200 out of a possible 400, which has caused alarm in the education community.

However, in response to the criticisms, Oloyede said in a meeting with civil society organizations, chief external examiners, and some stakeholders from Nigerian tertiary institutions that it is unfortunate that some people who are incapable of effectively managing small organizations are occupied with lecturing about JAMB’s inefficiencies.

The head of JAMB claims that he took on the role due to his experience in exam administration and educational growth.

He expressed sorrow that many doubters who are unaware of the board’s operations are occupied with making appearances on national media to offer their opinions on the UTME results and mislead Nigerians.

Oloyede said he was deeply hurt when he broke the news and asked those in attendance to observe a minute of silence in honor of a candidate who allegedly killed himself over the results of the UTME.

“As JAMB’s CEO, I don’t care where any of our staff members come from; all I know is that they have been doing their jobs for years,” he admitted.

“My emotional collapse was neither a sign of weakness nor a justification for ignoring our obligations. Because some people want to exploit the situation on the ground, let’s not be so polite that some people start pontificating.

However, the JAMB boss stated that all applicants who were initially unable to take the test would be permitted to retake it.
