Ikeja Council Chair Gifts Free GCE Forms to Students
The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, known as Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda or AKOD, has provided free General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to underprivileged students in the area.
During the presentation of the forms, part of the AKOD Educational Support Programme, Dauda emphasized that education is the most effective means to escape the poverty cycle, labeling the initiative as one of numerous intentional measures his administration has planned to give the youth of Ikeja a solid foundation to thrive globally.
He stated, “This initiative aims to alleviate the financial strain on talented but disadvantaged students, ensuring that financial limitations do not prevent any child in Ikeja from accessing educational opportunities.”
It is noteworthy that, in a strong reflection of his dedication to youth empowerment and educational progress, AKOD has continually prioritized youth development since taking office several weeks ago.
His administration has introduced various initiatives, such as the Holiday Job Programme, which has engaged over 250 Ikeja youths during the current long vacation, offering them work experience along with stipends.
There was also the International Youth Day Engagement, where the youth of Ikeja were motivated and educated about leadership, innovation, and civic responsibility.
Next is the Skill-Up Ikeja Project, aimed at providing young individuals with essential digital and vocational skills for a competitive global market.
Dauda additionally reaffirmed his commitment to the Ikeja Youth Master Plan, a detailed roadmap to prepare youths for opportunities both at home and abroad.
He revealed that recipients of the free GCE forms will also benefit from free tutorial classes, and the top performers will be honored with scholarships.
Among those present at the event were the Vice Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Abisola Omisore (OMITUNTUN); all six councillors, led by the leader of the House, Rasheed Adisa Ogunseye; and the council’s management staff, headed by the Council Manager, Mrs. Juliana Taiwo Odubeko.
