NYSC Now Officially Opens Portal for 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Call-Up Letters

The Council of Former FUTA Students’ Union Leaders has given the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) a seven-day deadline to address the issue concerning Mr. Jamiu Owodunni Basola’s admission to the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

Basola, who graduated with a degree in civil engineering, has been unable to mobilize for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) because JAMB claims his admission was not authorized.

Dr. Olaitan Adesomoju, the chairman of the Council of Former FUTA Students’ Union Leaders, shared a statement with Tribune Online asserting that, despite the official acknowledgment from the University Senate and the confirmation of his admission by the Head of Department, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, and the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Jamiu is in a difficult situation due to JAMB’s assertions regarding the legitimacy of his admission.

The alumni have urged JAMB to restore FUTA’s reputation, noting that the university has fulfilled its responsibilities in confirming Basola’s admission. They also requested that JAMB promptly review and confirm Basola’s admission status without any further delay.

Moreover, the alumni have called on JAMB to ensure that Basola is properly mobilized for NYSC without delay. They also requested that JAMB provide clear communication to both Basola and FUTA about the actions being taken to resolve this situation. Additionally, the alumni urged JAMB to publicly disclose the results of the police and DSS investigation as soon as possible.

The council indicated that if this issue is not handled within the given timeframe, they would organize peaceful protests and escalate their concerns to the appropriate authorities. “We cannot remain passive while one of our own endures unnecessary emotional and psychological strain, as well as the bureaucratic inefficiencies of JAMB,” Dr. Adesomoju asserted.

In a related matter, JAMB previously mentioned that Basola’s admission had not been approved, stating that his records were not located in the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). The board insisted that it lacks the power to propose or recommend candidates for admission but solely approves those endorsed by institutions.

On the other hand, FUTA affirmed Basola’s admission, indicating that the university had properly admitted him and that all relevant documents were submitted to the authorities for review. The university is now waiting for JAMB’s feedback regarding Basola’s admission status, having provided all necessary information.
