FG Bans Admission, Transfer Into SS3 Nationwide

The Federal Government (FG), through the Federal Ministry of Education, has declared a national prohibition on the enrollment and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) across all public and private secondary schools.

A statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations at the ministry, Boriowo Folasade, on Sunday, indicated that the decision stems from heightened concerns regarding the rising occurrences of examination malpractice. The statement also referenced the utilization of so-called special centres during external assessments, which compromise the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s educational system as a justification for the ban.

As outlined by the Ministry, this policy will be implemented starting from the 2026/27 academic year, with admissions and transfers now only permitted for Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2).

“Admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be allowed under any circumstance,” the statement read.

The ministry clarified that this measure intends to deter last-minute shifts of students for examination-related benefits, ensuring effective academic oversight, and fostering continuity in education.

“School owners, principals, and administrators throughout the nation have been instructed to fully adhere to the policy, as any breaches will result in appropriate penalties according to current educational regulations and guidelines,” the statement further noted.
