FG Assures Ex-Corps Members: ₦77K NYSC Allowance Arrears Will Be Paid Soon!

Since the new monthly allowance will start to be paid in March 2025, the federal government has promised that members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will get the backlog of their postponed increased N77,000 stipend.

On September 25, 2024, the federal government declared that, as of July 2024, serving corps members would receive a monthly stipend rise from N33,000 to N77,000.

The National Minimum Salary Amendment Act 2024, which increased the national minimum salary from N30,000 to N70,000, is the immediate cause of the increase.

In order to bring corps members’ stipends into line with the new salary structure, the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission approved the modification in September 2024.

Nevertheless, despite several assurances, the revised adjustment has not yet been put into effect.

In a fresh promise to corps members, Youth Development Minister Ayodele Olawande stated that backdated payments are anticipated for active corps members and those enrolled in the program at the time of the increment announcement.

Olawande, who previously stated that corps members would receive N77,000 in allowance in March, reiterated the government’s resolve to clear the backlog while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

“They are asking the new DG, ‘What about those that are going out now? Are they going to receive a backlog’?” after he stated that you will receive it. “We have your information.”

We’ll take care of the backlog and see to it that it is paid. “It might not happen right away, but it will happen,” he stated.

This occurs one week after Olakunle Nafiu, the NYSC’s new director-general, made a suggestion that corps members should anticipate the increased allowance to go into effect in March.

This comes after the new N70,000 national minimum wage was put into effect.

Caroline Embu, the acting head of Information and Public Relations, issued a statement in which Nafiu confirmed the development. He gave corps members the assurance that all outstanding payments would be made and that the government is still dedicated to their well-being.
“You are going to receive N77,000 as your monthly stipend starting in March. I promise that your money will be paid, and NYSC keeps accurate records. You are valued by the country and the plan,” Nafiu said.
