Fake Admission Fanola: Student Threatens N500m Lawsuit
A 200-level Law student from Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, Akinlolu Richard Omisade, has threatened to file a lawsuit for N500 million against his university for allegedly granting him a fake admission that was not submitted to the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In a protest letter delivered by his lawyer, Barrister Abdulfatai Abdulsalam, and acknowledged by the Vice-Chancellor’s office, Omisade described the admission he received from the university as ‘fake’.
The letter indicated that the management of the admission process for Omisade was poorly executed and carelessly managed, resulting in his name not being sent to JAMB for appropriate consideration.
The petition noted, “Our client received an admission offer to study Law at your institution via an admission letter dated August 16, 2024.
“Upon checking the JAMB portal, it became evident that our client was not legitimately admitted by your institution. His name could not be found within the JAMB portal for law admissions at your university. This indicates that your institution did not forward his details to JAMB for the admission process into the Law program.”
Omisade, through his attorney, cautioned that “non-compliance will force us to inform the National Universities Commission (NUC), JAMB, and the Council of Legal Education (CLE) regarding your institution’s improper method of admitting students through unverifiable means.”
When contacted by The Nation regarding the matter, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olaniyi Adekanye, stated, “We are in discussions with the family to find a resolution. The Pro Chancellor is aware of the situation, and we are currently holding meetings about it.”
