The Excellent Minds Initiative (EMI) Essay Competition is now accepting submissions. The Competition is the brainchild of the Excellent Minds Social and Youth Empowerment Initiative. It is an annual essay competition for tertiary undergraduate students.

The competition aims to promote critical thinking, harness ideas, and develop the inherent talents, abilities, gifts, and skills of African youth. The Excellent Minds Essay Competition has been held at various Nigerian universities over the years. It has inspired innovative and high-impact student projects and ideas aimed at solving Nigeria’s most pressing problems since its official launch.

This year and beyond, the competition will be open to tertiary institutions throughout West Africa, with a focus on regional development issues. This year’s competition theme is Partnership for Sustainable Development in West Africa.
Eligibility for the Excellent Minds Essay Competition
Undergraduate students in West Africa are eligible; they must be enrolled in any discipline at any tertiary institution in West Africa.
Prizes for the Excellent Minds Essay Competition
The first prize is an Apple iPad and a plaque.
Second Place: A Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and a Plaque
Third prize: a Kindle 6′′ Wifi eBook Reader (tenth generation) and a Plaque
The top five essays will also be published on EMI’s website, where the online community will have unrestricted access.

Identify and describe some of the major challenges confronting West Africa in no more than 1000 words, and propose collaborative solutions for West African countries. These solutions should not jeopardize their commitments to other African countries.
Use a 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font with 1.5-line spacing and page numbers.
Your cover page and references are not included in the word count.
All entries must be written in English.
The submission deadline is May 5, 2022. Semi-finalists who have been shortlisted will be notified by May 30, 2022.
