Chaos in Imo! JAMB’s Last-Minute Changes Leave UTME Candidates Stranded and Furious

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) reportedly changed their testing locations mere hours before the test, which caused many candidates to miss the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Imo State on Friday, May 16, 2025.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, JAMB had originally given a 24-hour notice for the exam before moving some candidates’ centers just before it started, leaving many perplexed and unable to take part.

One of the candidates’ parents, who identified himself as Mr. Nwachukwu, described how, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, JAMB sent his son a slip stating that the exam would take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 6:30 AM, and that he had been assigned to a center at the Federal University of Technology Owerri.

Feeling humiliated by the short notice, Nwachukwu claimed that in order to make it in time, he had made special arrangements for a car to take his son to FUTO.

He claims that at approximately 8:35 AM, his son contacted him to let him know that he had recently learned that the exam location had been shifted to Alvan Ikoku University of Education in Owerri.

The unhappy father claimed that when he arrived at the new center, his son was informed that the 6:30 AM test was over.

To catch up with the exam at FUTO, we left the house at five in the morning. Due to the takeoff time, the driver demanded that I pay ₦10,000.

At 6:11 AM, we arrived at FUTO, dropped off my son, and departed. My son called me at 8:35 a.m. to let me know that they had just discovered the exam had been rescheduled to Alvan Ikoku University of Education.

When my son and his classmates hurried to Alvan Ikoku University, they were informed that the exam had ended at 6:00 AM.

At this moment, they discovered that JAMB had issued a message a few hours prior to the exam’s start, informing them that the location had been moved to Alvan Ikoku University.

My son claims that the coordinators agreed to inform the board’s headquarters of the problem by sending a message.

“For this test, my son came back from Rivers State School. I feel like condemning those who have done this because I am aware of how much I have spent.

“Why should a test be announced 24 hours in advance? Why should the center be switched in a day? The mom, clearly irate, asked.

Another applicant identified herself as Chiamaka and expressed frustration.

“I feel frustrated, but I’m not sure what to say,” she said.

After acknowledging that the results it published for the test administered in April had inaccuracies, JAMB rescheduled the exam for candidates in the Southeast and Lagos.
