Chaos at UTME Center! Angry Candidates Vandalize Computers Over JAMB Glitch
After a technical malfunction at a center in Ibadan, Oyo State, disrupted the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), candidates went on the rampage, revealing more tales of hardships.
Frustrated candidates vented their resentment on the broken computers during the Friday, April 25 incident at the Abimbola Excel School, Elesin, in the Amuloko neighborhood along Akanran Road, Ona Ara Local Government Area.
Witnesses said that after hours of anxious waiting, the candidates became agitated due to frequent system malfunctions that prevented the planned UTME from taking place.
The technical issues continued despite multiple attempts by the center operators to fix them, leaving hundreds of candidates anxious and stuck.
The disgruntled candidates were observed hurling their ire at the center’s amenities, damaging computers, plastic chairs, and other items.
In the meantime, more applicants have denounced the 2025 UTME’s unsatisfactory performance thus far. Anifowose Oluwasemilore criticized the way the physics paper was administered during the test and urged JAMB to take immediate action to resolve the matter.
The questions in JAMB Physics were not complete. Oluwasemilore stated, “This should be addressed.”
Oluwasemilore claims that certain physics questions seemed unfinished, which means that applicants were not provided with all the information they needed to provide an accurate response.
Yakubu Rashidat, another applicant, expressed her worries over the fairness and accuracy of the examination process after sharing her experience at her testing location.
At my center, there were 55 English questions rather than 60. Ten of the fifty-five questions, she claimed, were just alternatives with no questions.
Instead of the customary 60 English language questions, candidates were only given 55. Ten of the 55 questions that were accessible, she continued, “had no real questions at all; only the answer options were shown without any guidance.”
Candidates were confused as a result, not knowing how to respond to the questions or even if they should try.
Some Nigerians are apprehensive that this would lead to candidates who would have done better under normal circumstances failing needlessly.
Regarding the occurrence, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) officials have not yet released a formal statement. To restore order and stop additional damage, police officers were later sent to the center, according to a security source on the site.
This incident heightens worries about how the UTME is being administered in different Nigerian centers.
Candidates have frequently complained about technical issues, a lack of coordination, and inadequate infrastructure, which has led to concerns about JAMB’s readiness for such a significant digital test.
Candidates who have been impacted are currently eagerly awaiting new instructions from JAMB regarding the rescheduling of their tests. To preserve the integrity of the test process and to protect applicants’ interests, many have urged the examination organization to make sure that similar embarrassing incidents are avoided in the future.
