Six Nigerian Institutions Win ₦710 Million JAMB Prize for Admission Compliance Excellence!
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has presented N710 million to six higher education institutions during this year’s National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award (NATAP-M).
Since 2018, JAMB has been recognizing tertiary institutions for their adherence to its admission protocols through annual awards.
The recipients were given symbolic cheques at the award ceremony that took place shortly after the policy meeting on admissions into higher education institutions, which was also organized by JAMB in Abuja on Tuesday.
Criteria for Selection
JAMB Registrar Is-haq Oloyede, a professor, elaborated on the selection process for the award winners, stating that the institutions were evaluated based on five specific criteria.
These criteria included the institution with the highest number of candidates pursuing admission, one that admits applicants from every state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) while enrolling at least 1,500 candidates overall, as well as one showcasing the most equitable distribution of admitted candidates among its catchment states (all states for specialized military institutions).
Additional criteria included institutions with the highest number of foreign admissions, those showing significant improvement in gender balance, and those most compliant with the guidelines for admissions through the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS).
Award Recipients
This year, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was recognized as the overall winner, scoring 14 points and receiving N500 million naira.
The University of Ilorin was the Runner-Up with nine points and was granted N75 million. Nile University of Nigeria, a private institution located in Abuja, was the Second Runner-Up with six points and was awarded N25 million.
