JAMB Uncovers Shocking Fingerprint Fraud in 19 CBT Centers—Malpractice Ring Busted!
Data shared by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) during its 2025 policy meeting on Tuesday indicated that computer-based test centers in Imo and Anambra states ranked highest among those found to be involved in finger-pairing malpractices.
Overall, approximately 19 centers were identified nationwide, with Anambra accounting for six, Imo for four, Abia for one, Edo for one, Kano for two centers, and Ebonyi, Delta, Kaduna, Rivers, and Enugu each having one center.
The registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this information in his presentation at a meeting attended by vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, and other stakeholders in Abuja on Tuesday.
He also highlighted other fraudulent practices, such as impersonators utilizing albinos to manipulate images and making remote uploads.
In a related development, the police have brought two individuals before the Federal High Court in Katsina on charges of impersonation and examination malpractice.
The police prosecutor, Abdussalam Danmaidaki, reported that the defendants, Bolanwu Emmanuel and Ibrahim Abdulaziz, allegedly committed the crime on April 30 at Zee Alpha International School, Funtua.
Danmaidaki explained that Emmanuel invited Abdulaziz into the examination hall to impersonate him and take the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination on his behalf using registration number 2025515278JA.
The prosecutor stated that the crime is punishable under sections 4(2)(a) and (b) and 4(3)(c) of the Examination Malpractice Act, Cap E15, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
He further noted that Abdulaziz unlawfully and deceitfully presented himself as a UTME candidate and sat for the exam under the same name as Emmanuel with registration number 2025515278JA.
He emphasized that this crime contravenes sections 3(1)(a) and (b), and 3(2)(c) of the Examination Malpractice Act, Cap E15, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The defendants, however, entered a plea of not guilty.
The prosecutor requested the court to grant time to present witnesses.
The presiding judge, Justice Hussaini Dadan-Garba, postponed the case to July 18 for the trial and the prosecution’s presentation of witnesses.
