JAMB Grants N710 Million to ABU, Unilorin & 4 Other Institutions—See Full List!

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has granted N710 million to six higher education institutions during this year’s National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award (NATAP-M).

In Abuja on Tuesday, JAMB Registrar Is-haq Oloyede commented on how the winners were determined, stating that the board evaluated the institutions based on five criteria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reminds us that since 2018, JAMB has presented awards to tertiary institutions for adhering to its admission procedures.

For the 2025 awards, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was recognized as the overall winner with 14 points and received N500 million.

The University of Ilorin was recognized as the runner-up with nine points and was awarded N75 million.

Nile University of Nigeria, a private institution in Abuja, was the second runner-up with six points, receiving N25 million.

During the award ceremony, the winners were presented with symbolic checks.

Oloyede explained that the selection criteria included the institution with the highest number of applicants and one that admits candidates from all states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Additional criteria included institutions that accepted at least 1,500 candidates in total and those with a fair distribution of admitted candidates among their catchment states (all states for specialized military institutions).

Other evaluation factors included the highest number of admissions for international candidates, improvements in gender balance, and compliance with guidelines for admissions through the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS).

The NATAP-M awards also feature sector-specific awards for polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions (IEI).

Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna, was named the best polytechnic with an aggregate score of 10 points, while the Federal College of Education, Zaria, was honored as the best college of education, achieving an aggregate of 18 points, with both receiving N50 million each.

Furthermore, the PEFTI Film Institute, Lagos, was recognized as the best IEI, with an aggregate score of four points, earning an N10 million reward. (NAN)
