The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the results for its mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

In a statement released on Sunday by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board confirmed that results for 11,161 candidates who took part in the mop-up exam have been made available out of the total 96,838 who were scheduled to take the test.

“Candidates who are unable to access their results have been identified as those who did not follow the directions to send ‘UTMERESULT’ (as one word text) to 55019/66019 from the same phone number (SIM) used for their UTME registration,” the statement indicated.

Additionally, JAMB provided an update regarding the ongoing investigation into a fraudulent admission letter scheme, which led to the arrest of its masterminds in 2024.

The statement added, “It should be noted that a joint press conference held on April 13, 2024, between the PPRO of the Nigeria Police Force and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board addressed the issue raised by JAMB about a syndicate involved in fabricating JAMB-Admission Letters for interested candidates for a fee, prompting a detailed investigation.”

“With the support of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), the police successfully apprehended the five key members of the organization.”

“The five arrested leaders admitted to producing the fake admission letters and are currently facing prosecution in the Federal High Court, Abuja, in the case of the Inspector General of Police Vs. Effa Leonard and four others. After their confessions, a total of 17,417 candidates were identified as beneficiaries of the scam.”

The Board reported that between 2024 and May 2025, it had cleared 6,903 of the flagged candidates after they corrected minor issues.

It further stated that the remaining 10,514 candidates were directed to designated police investigation offices.

The board noted, “Out of the 10,514 candidates, 5,669 were confirmed to have directly obtained forged letters, while 4,832 candidates, whose admissions were not disclosed to JAMB and who were being processed for condonement by their confessing institutions under a (2017-2020) ministerial waiver, prematurely approached the syndicate to skip the formal process.”

“Thirteen others were flagged due to various acts of omission or commission on the candidates’ part. Twelve of these thirteen candidates registered in 2017 when the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) was introduced.”

JAMB disclosed the institutions associated with these thirteen cases, including Bayero University Kano (BUK), Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Ekiti State University (EKSU), Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Olabisi Onabanjo University, Osun State Polytechnic Ire, Ben Idahosa University, Obong University, and the University of Ilorin.

The board added, “As part of the ongoing screening process, the management of the Board decided in its meeting on July 5, 2025, that the 13 candidates flagged for any act of omission or commission should be asked to correct their specific issues and proceed to print their new admission letters, as they belong to the previously condoned batch of 6,903.”

“Moreover, a total of 1,532 candidates, whose primary defense (though hard to believe) was that they were not involved in the commissioning of the syndicate that facilitated their admission letters, will be cautioned and condoned because their institutions have ultimately processed their condonement concerning initially undisclosed admissions — a process the candidates initially sought to evade.”

JAMB confirmed that 3,300 candidates are still under investigation, as their institutions have not processed their admissions through the proper channels.

“The ongoing screening processes by the Board will persist, and any individual discovered to have sought help from fraudsters involved in examinations and certificates, or who has strayed from the established protocols for registration, examination, or admission, will continue to encounter repercussions, including prosecution under the Examination Malpractices Act, which outlines suitable penalties even for minors and their responsible mentors, guardians, or parents,” the examination body stated.
