EXCLUSIVE: JAMB Moves to Clear FUTA Graduate & 4,000+ Others Facing Admission and NYSC Challenges!

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is preparing to approve 4,845 individuals, including Jamiu Basola, a graduate from the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), who has faced difficulties registering for the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) due to issues related to his admission status.

Mr. Basola, along with FUTA, has raised concerns with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board after the board labeled his admission as fraudulent whenever he attempted to register for the NYSC.

Both Mr. Basola and the university have asserted that his admission is legitimate, and the institution has reached out to JAMB to verify the graduate’s enrollment.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is poised to resolve issues for candidates.

PREMIUM TIMES has learned that the board is close to resolving the cases of Mr. Basola and over 4,000 others facing similar difficulties.

An insider familiar with the situation informed this publication that Mr. Basola, along with 12 other candidates with analogous challenges, will be instructed to make necessary corrections that may have contributed to the issues appearing on their JAMB portal.

These 13 candidates were part of the 4,845 regularized by JAMB but were flagged due to detected omissions on their portals, according to the source.

The remaining candidates include two from Bayero University Kano (BUK) and one each from the University of Ilorin, Ekiti State University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ben Idahosa University, Obong University, Yaba College of Technology, Osun State Polytechnic, and Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri.

The specific problems with the admissions of Mr. Basola and the other 12 affected individuals remain unclear.

However, in a complaint lodged with the JAMB Support Center on February 10, 2025, which PREMIUM TIMES has reviewed, Mr. Basola recognized that he had not printed the original JAMB result slip from his portal—a document that might have clarified his admission situation.

“I acknowledge that this error may have contributed to the current issue,” he stated, while asserting that he was legitimately admitted and completed his studies in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at FUTA in December 2024.

Mr. Basola’s admission was marked as “fake” on the JAMB matriculation list, which disqualified him from being mobilized for the NYSC. The problem remained unresolved for several months despite him providing multiple supporting documents such as his JAMB admission letter, UTME result, WAEC certificate, and FUTA admission letter.

Mr. Basola expressed to PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday that he no longer believes his failure to print his result from the JAMB portal was the cause of his troubles.

Our source revealed that JAMB received over 17,000 complaints regarding admissions nationwide and subsequently reviewed them.

The source noted that the board cleared 6,908 candidates last month while identifying 5,669 as outright fraud, with some cases under investigation or prosecution.

JAMB CAPS and Regularisation

To streamline the admission process in 2017, JAMB launched the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), which mandates that all tertiary institutions offer admissions to candidates through this system.

Candidates who receive admissions outside of CAPS are classified by JAMB as undisclosed or illegal admissions.

During the first three years (2017-2020), JAMB assisted universities in regularizing admissions conducted outside CAPS following a waiver granted by the then Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.

As part of the regularization of these admissions, the board flagged 13 candidates, including Mr. Basola, for certain omissions.

However, admissions conducted outside of CAPS since 2020 are deemed illegal and cannot be regularized.
