JAMB Success Starts with Mentorship—Jextoban School Director Urges Better Student Guidance

Dr. Adedayo Ojo, the Director of Planning and Strategy at Jextoban Secondary School, has underlined the need for appropriate mentorship and academic support in enhancing student outcomes in the wake of the widespread poor performance in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

While every student can do very well on tests like the UTME, Dr. Ojo pointed out that early exposure to the proper coaching, mentorship, and preparatory help is frequently necessary for success.

Regardless of their present academic standing, students can do better when they receive the right guidance and mentoring. Their performance is greatly improved by exposure to formal coaching,” he said.

He said this while praising Jextoban students for their outstanding achievement in the recently finished UTME, which was administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Students at Jextoban achieved outstanding achievements in spite of the decline in scores across the country.

Every one of our applicants received a score higher than 200. Dr. Ojo disclosed that more than 21% of them received scores of 300 or higher, which is less than 1% of UTME applicants nationwide.

He also revealed that about 49% of Jextoban’s applicants received scores in the 250–299 range, which is much higher than the national average.

Dr. Ojo credited subject-specific competence, especially in foundational scientific courses, for this achievement. He mentioned outstanding results in chemistry, physics, and mathematics.

“Layade Nehemiah received a score of 96 in mathematics, while Temowo Pamilerin, Jaleyemi Moyosore, and Alabi Joshua had scores of 98. Layade Nehemiah, Abraham Righteousness, and Alao Testimony received scores of 94, 92, and 96 in physics, respectively. Abraham Righteousness and Agbegunde Momoreoluwa both received 90 in chemistry, he claimed.

He attributed the school’s success to the passion of its faculty and its dedication to academic excellence.

“These results reflect the high standards we uphold at Jextoban and the unwavering effort of our instructors,” he continued.

Dr. Ojo emphasized the school’s emphasis on inclusive education and mentioned that all students, regardless of their academic background, receive individualized mentorship.

Our goal is to close gaps in the educational system by helping all students, regardless of how well they are doing or how difficult they find it. “Any student can achieve excellence with the right guidance,” he stated.

In addition to highlighting the school’s accomplishments beyond UTME scores, Dr. Ojo disclosed that 12 graduates of the 2024 graduating class received first-class honors degrees from both Nigerian and foreign colleges.

These accomplishments and outcomes demonstrate our commitment to high-quality instruction and moral behavior. “Many of our alumni are doing very well in their careers all over the world,” he said.
