JAMB Pays CBT Centers ₦3 Billion, Launches Probe Into 12,000 UTME Results!

N3 billion has been paid by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to authorized operators of computer-based testing facilities nationwide for services provided during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Additionally, the exam body revealed that it is looking into 12,617 candidates’ scores for possible violations.

According to information The PUNCH received from the board on Monday, a number of problems, including technical, biometric, and registration violations, are to blame for the results that are being looked into.

According to the breakdown, more than 2,000 results were rejected because biometric verification failed, 122 results are being investigated for potential exam malpractice, 130 results had image blending problems, over 3,000 results had fingerprint mismatches, and 6,114 results had registration irregularities flagged.

All results under investigation are still pending final review and validation, the board stated.

JAMB further reported that just 597 out of nearly 40,000 under-16 applicants who sat for the 2025 UTME scored satisfactorily, while the remaining 39,002 were classed as underperforming.

Concern erupted among stakeholders and the general public after the initial UTME results were released on May 9, 2025, revealing that more than 1.5 million candidates out of 1.9 million scored below 200 out of 400.

In response to the controversy, JAMB conducted an internal review that revealed both technological and human faults in the way the test was administered.

In response to complaints of disruptions and irregularities, JAMB arranged for 379,000 applicants, primarily from South-East states and Lagos, to retake the exam.

Regarding financial obligations, the board attested that N3 billion had already been paid to CBT facilities across the country for their services during the 2025 UTME cycle.

Following the completion of the mop-up tests, additional payments for the retake exams will be processed.

Candidates and the general public were reassured by JAMB that the review process is being conducted transparently and that any genuine results will be made public.
