UTME Results Error Was Human Mistake — Not a Technical Glitch, Say Lawmakers
The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results problem was attributed to human error, according to the House of Representatives’ committee on basic education and examination organizations.
Oboku Oforji, the committee’s chairman, told reporters in Abuja on Tuesday that initial results show that human error, not a technical malfunction, was the cause of the problem that affected over 300,000 candidates.
Remember that on May 9, JAMB announced the results of the 2025 UTME. Over 78% of candidates received fewer than 200 points out of the 400 possible points, according to a breakdown.
The house decided to investigate the examination body for the purported technical fault on May 15.
Oforji, along with his colleagues, countered JAMB’s allegation that the failure was a technical one and instead attributed it to human error. He felt sorry for the candidates who were impacted by the mistake.
He stated, “On behalf of the examination body (JAMB), we sincerely apologize to all Nigerians.”
The committee acknowledges the bravery and sincerity of Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, for taking responsibility for his team’s mistakes and offering an apology to the candidates, parents, and the country as a whole.
However, JAMB’s carelessness made these human mistakes preventable.
“The committee also values Nigerian students’ zeal and resolve to further their education to better our nation’s future.”
Notwithstanding the “unfortunate” incident, the committee chairman praised JAMB’s continuous procedure from registration to the results release.
Oforji stated that the committee had presented the board with reform proposals and called for an “independent and thorough investigation” into the situation.
