2025 UTME: DSS & Police Arrest 20 Over JAMB Website Hacking Attempt!

The Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja are presently holding at least 20 people for hacking the 2025 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) computer-based test exams, The Nation reported yesterday.

The accused are members of a gang that is thought to consist of more than 100 individuals and specializes in hacking the computer servers of testing organizations such as the National Examinations Council (NECO) and JAMB.

According to security sources, the suspects have admitted to undermining the computer-based test system to undermine JAMB and deter future WAEC/NECO exam takers from utilizing CBT.

One of the suspects reportedly admitted that the syndicate would

Install malicious software on the hardware of the examination body.

Any targeted CBT center’s JAMB servers would thereafter be remotely compromised by the program.

According to the source, among other states, the suspects are from Lagos, Edo, Anambra, Kano, and Delta.

But since they would shortly face charges, the source begged that their names not be mentioned.

The public was unaware that the DSS had been surreptitiously observing and looking into this deadly network of attacks while the dispute was raging. More than 20 people were arrested nationwide as a result of the investigations, and more are currently being held.

These hackers’ tactic was to install routers close to the CBT facilities they were targeting. To make it simple for the special candidates who paid to receive solutions to the questions, the routers would then take control of the JAMB platforms at the centers.

“The syndicate’s introduction of the ghost software warped the system, causing candidates’ exam responses to differ from the questions. According to the security source, this ultimately resulted in the mass failure that was documented.

According to the information acquired, the goal of the entire hacking procedure was to influence high scores for special candidates who paid between 700,000 and two million naira.

The insider further said that preliminary investigations found that numerous members of the syndicate operate private schools and universities and generate significant sums of money from their special centers. The insider further said that early investigations showed that a number of syndicate members own private universities and schools and earn enormous sums of money from their special centers.

It was discovered that they are afraid that their illicit company will be destroyed if WAEC/NECO is fully integrated for CBT-style exams.

The source, however, claimed that as of yesterday evening, “no case of complicity had been established against the seven JAMB staff who supervised the service providers at the two locations.”
