UTME Glitches: MURIC Defends JAMB Boss Oloyede, Blasts Resignation Demands

Muslim Rights Concern, an Islamic human rights organization, has called the House of Representatives’ South East caucus’s and a South East academic organization’s demand for the resignation of the troubled JAMB registrar heartless, absurd, and unpatriotic.

This was said by MURIC on Friday in a statement that was signed by Professor Ishaq Akintola, the organization’s founder and executive director.

According to the statement, the House of Representatives’ Southeast caucus demanded this week that the troubled registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) retire due to the exam irregularities that happened during the 2025 exams in several regions of the nation.

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), section of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), took a similar action yesterday, threatening to sue JAMB.

“MURIC considers these calls to be unpatriotic, absurd, and heartless. In addition, it is arrogant, narrow-minded, and localized. It is intellectually poor and smirks at ethnic buccaneering. The concept is willingly contributing to the dearth of critical, analytical, and impartial thought. It is time for our academics and legislators to get over their stated tribal jingoism.

“What makes the Southeast want to kill the golden egg-laying goose? Nigeria, especially JAMB, has never had it so well, according to the records. Since taking over, the incumbent has turned around JAMB, which was a wasteful and consuming organization before Oloyede. Since then, the organization has returned billions to the federal government’s (FG) coffers annually.

According to the statement, JAMB, led by Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has reimbursed the FG almost N50 billion over the last seven years.

In 2021, it sent N3.51 billion to FG, and in 2024, it sent N6 billion, the statement continues. The total amount that JAMB had reimbursed throughout the forty years prior to Oloyede’s rise, however, was a pitiful N52 million.

This year, things reached a startling peak when Oloyede informed FG that JAMB, under his leadership, does not need any funding because its internally generated revenue (IGR) is sufficient to fund its operations.

How many government agencies have made this kind of return to the government? Why should a performer primus inter pares be the target of our legislators’ efforts?
