“True Jihad Is Peace-Building, Not War”—JAMB Registrar Oloyede Speaks on Islam and Unity

According to Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), many people mistakenly believe that jihad in Islam is a holy battle.

He clarified that jihad in Islam refers to establishing peace and includes all activities, including teaching, preaching, and loving.

According to the head of JAMB, these actions are considered acts of jihad, battling for the sake of Almighty Allah, so long as they are carried out to seek divine pleasure by the established principles and in opposition to begging.

Oloyede gave a speech at the inaugural international conference, “Navigating the Dynamics of Religion, Politics, Ethnicity, and Youth for Peace and Development,” which was hosted on the campus of Fountain University and Nasfat Missionary Institute (NMI).

He emphasized that growth and peace are inextricably linked.
