JAMB Age Requirement for 2024/2025

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has received praise from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for its openness in addressing the issues that impacted the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Students who were impacted by the issues showed interest in keeping an eye on how the UTME retake exams were administered in a letter to Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NANS) was given a copy of the letter on Friday in Abuja, which was signed by Olushola Oladoja, the National President of NANS.

Oladoja stated in the letter that the association’s primary mission to safeguard and defend the rights of Nigerian students and advance accountability and openness in educational procedures was by the request to take part in retake exam monitoring.

We would like to express our gratitude to the board for its prompt and open decision to retake the 2025 UTME for applicants who experienced administrative and technological difficulties in six different states.

“Your dedication to justice, equity, and the integrity of Nigeria’s educational system is admirably demonstrated by this action.

“We hereby express our interest in supervising and monitoring the conduct of the UTME retake examination across all affected centers, by our core mandate,” Oladoja stated.

Representatives from each of the six impacted states were chosen by the NANS president to act as the association’s official supervisors throughout the exercise.

The association “is confident in their ability to support the process professionally,” he said, describing the nominees as “responsible student leaders with proven records of discipline and diligence.”

Ikechukwu Santos and Ebube Ijeoma are the nominees for Anambra; Dr. Mike Ifenke and Frank Eme-Orji are the nominees for Abia; and Ibeabuchi Onya and Olisa Nwuruku are the nominees for Ebonyi.

Afeez Akinteye and Busari Adelaja represent Lagos State; Chinaemerem Emesowum and Chidiebere Aguocha represent Imo; and Chidi Nzekwe and Minister Udochukwu represent Enugu State.

Recall that more than 1.5 million of the 1.9 million applicants who took the 2025 UTME are said to have received scores below 200 out of a possible 400.

Following public indignation over the dismal performance, Oloyede had enlisted top IT specialists and educational assessment professionals to investigate reported technical faults that ruined the examinations.

During a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the JAMB Registrar admitted to a technological error that compromised the integrity of the results in 157 centers nationwide, impacting the results of 379,997 applicants.

Oloyede accepted responsibility for the mistakes after displaying emotion and crying during the press conference.

He promised to get in touch with the impacted applicants so they could retake the test on the appointed days. (NAN)
