UTME 2025: Peter Obi Reacts as JAMB Admits Error in 379,997 Results — Calls for Accountability

A 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate and former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, has criticized the 2025 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam malfunction.
He voiced his worries about the recent technical issues that plagued the results release process and impacted about 380,000 applicants nationwide.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, apologized for the mistakes in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Wednesday while sobbing.
At a news conference in Abuja, Oloyede sobbed as he declared, “I apologize for the trauma caused to the candidates.”
At the beginning of the briefing, Oloyede admitted that there had been “one or two errors” in the 2025 UTME.
Speaking to some journalists in Awka on Thursday, Obi urged the country’s public institutions to undergo change in order to prevent delicate issues that could escalate into a national emergency.
He praised the JAMB registrar for displaying an unusual level of accountability and responsibility by owning up to his mistake and expressing regret.
Although Obi praised the effort, he pointed out that such a high defect presented a more serious problem that illustrated the institutional structures’ vulnerability in Nigeria.
According to Obi, the impacted students continue to suffer greatly on an emotional and psychological level.
The country’s public examination procedures desperately need to be trustworthy, cautious, and honest, as seen by the accounts of serious trauma and even fatalities.
“Since they undermine the fundamental underpinnings of confidence in our public institutions, these glitches are not insignificant accidents,” he stated.
He called on JAMB and other organizations of a similar nature to implement strict quality assurance procedures, such as ongoing technological infrastructure audits, open communication, and prompt problem solving.
He asserts that neither JAMB nor any branch of government should tolerate any further hiccups.
“Repeated failure is just too costly,” he stated.
