UTME 2025: Top Scorers Reveal Their Success Secrets—Here’s How They Did It!
Hard work has been greatly recognized by some 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates who achieved scores above 340 overall and over 90 in math.
The candidates also identified devotion and prayer as other factors that contributed to their stories in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Thursday.
Through perseverance and prayer, 15-year-old Temiloluwa Afolabi, a prospective computer engineer from the Oritamefa Baptist Model School in Ibadan, claimed to have achieved a 98 in mathematics and a 363 overall.
He emphasized the importance of having a clear vision and maintaining focus on one’s goals.
According to Afolabi, “The secret to success is having the goal in mind, looking at it, and believing it will come together, then working towards it.”
He exhorted other students to keep their goals firmly in mind while they pray and work hard in their studies.
“You cannot obtain anything if you cannot see it. One thing I’ve discovered is that you can’t get what you want if you can’t see it.
According to Afolabi, “You have to work toward it if you have the picture in mind that this is what I want to get.”
Olarenwaju Okubanjo, 16, of Christ Ambassadors International College in Ibadan, also credited hard work for his accomplishments.
With a 97 in math and a 360 overall, Okubanjo, who wants to attend Pan Atlantic University to study mechanical engineering, said his prayers and hard work had paid off.
I continued to put in a lot of effort, reading my textbooks repeatedly before continuing to complete the previous questions.
“I also continued to pray to God, and I’m thankful that it worked out well,” Okubanjo remarked.
He assured his colleagues that they would eventually succeed and encouraged them to continue reading and practicing.
He remarked, “It is only a phase; it will all be worthwhile in the end.”
Bogotinjetoluwa Ayodeji-Olatuyi, 15, meanwhile, credited God and the help of his family and instructors for his accomplishment.
Christ Ambassadors International College student Ayodeji-Olatuyi, who received a 345 overall and a 98 in math, said he visualized his goals and put a lot of effort into achieving them.
“I essentially took practice exams every day.
“With a plan on how to get better grades, I started working on my score,” he stated.
Ayodeji-Olatuyi encouraged his friends to practice math every day because he wants to become an expert in robotics and artificial intelligence.
“I want to advise other students to set daily goals and to avoid making excuses that would prevent them from achieving them.
For me, this involves figuring out mathematical puzzles on a daily basis.
According to Ayodeji-Olatuyi, “This is one of the things I do that has helped me in my mathematics.”
Out of 1,955,069 candidates, just 4,756 (0.24%) received a score of 320 or higher, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
