Ogun LG Chairman Faces Backlash for Giving UTME Forms to Non-Indigenes

Citizens have criticized Idris Olalekan Kusimo, the chairman of the Ifo Local Government Area in Ogun State, for congratulating a non-indigenous person on an exceptional performance in the 2025 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Kusimo praised Azoyenime Samuel Chukwuemeka of Isaac Newton School, stating that his “hard work, dedication, and brilliance have brought pride to our council area.”

He claimed that the boy’s outstanding accomplishment is a testament to his dedication to greatness and the steadfast support of his family and educators.

Chukwuemeka will continue to “make us proud in all your future endeavours,” the chairman said, urging him to achieve even greater academic success.

Many internet users did not like the chairman’s statement, particularly those who believe that the Yoruba political elite favors catering to other ethnic groups at the expense of their people.

“We come up here every day, screaming at the top of our lungs about how you godforsaken political urchins are marginalizing your people to advance other tribes in your region and state,” wrote @Akanbi_Semilore, an X user. Many of you are harming your people; take a look.

“What exactly is wrong with the people who are getting into political offices across Yorùba land?” @khalifaoyin had the same sentiment. Why would a chairman of the local government care about this? Is he native to Ogun State or Ifo? We’ll fix all the bullshit.

With the statement, “Even in the US, Donald Trump is giving white South Africans easy refugee status but chasing away colored,” @jasperlingo007 urged the LG chairman to give indigenous people priority. Tatan, takisa, and teniteni. U better wake up. They still never put your needs ahead of theirs.

The worst thing about them, according to @dammalexx, is that they are bloody ingrates who don’t value anything from Yoruba land, are unfaithful, and call Yorubas—especially our women—all kinds of derogatory names on social media. All of these eye services won’t help us get anywhere.

UTME forms for everyone, irrespective of race

The chairman disclosed that his administration even purchased UTME forms for all inhabitants of his LGA, regardless of ethnicity, in response to a netizen who questioned why Kusimo decided to celebrate Chukwuemeka while ignoring indigenous people with high UTME scores.

For background, the Ifo Local Government bought JAMB forms for hundreds of local students, irrespective of their tribe or ethnicity. It is our responsibility to honor those who have performed exceptionally well,” he stated.

The Ogun State chapter of the Think Yoruba First organization viewed the act of buying exam forms for non-indigenous people as self-betrayal.

“Dear Chairman, you stated ‘ regardless of tribe,’ but is Ifo no longer Yoruba land?” @TYFOgun tweeted. Is it incorrect to assume that Yoruba leadership will put Yoruba people first? Must we destroy ourselves to prove justice in our own country? Equity isn’t that. That is a betrayal of oneself.

Kusimo replied that because “Ifo is highly heterogeneous,” he decided to appease all ethnic groups.

@Akanbi_Semilore expressed displeasure with the chairman’s remarks, saying, “You claim that Ifo is extremely diverse, but they are occupying your ancestral land and political space. You see how foolish a lot of you political figures from Yoruba are. You are claiming liberal and Yorùba butt while other tribes defend their people.

“Pay attention to your people and leave toll alone,” @undiluted_ola stated. The LG’s resources are intended for the local indigenous populations. Put an end to this bullshit and use our resources to help our people grow. Let them send a letter to Nigeria expressing their desire for a scholarship.

The chairman’s gesture infuriated @nononsensezone, who pointed out that only the state’s indigenous people were eligible for scholarships to institutions in Nigeria and the UK in Ebonyi.

As he questioned why Ifo prioritized inclusivity over indigenous concerns, he also revealed how two council chairs in Taraba State and Borno State purchased exam forms exclusively for indigenous people.
