Tragedy: 19-Year-Old Takes Own Life Over Low UTME Score — Gets Admission Alert 30 Minutes Later

Opesusi Faith Timilehin, 19, took “Push Out” rodent poison on Monday after receiving a score of 190 on the recently announced Joint Admission and Matriculation Board UTME exam.

Timilehin, who was born in Abeokuta, lived with her older sibling in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Residents and neighbors lamented Timilehin, whom they characterized as “gentle and humble,” according to information obtained by The Guardian newspaper.

According to a family member, the deceased took the same test last year after applying for a position in microbiology.

One of her close allies (name withheld) told our correspondent over the phone, “She said her last year’s result was better than this year’s.”

When Timilehin demanded palm oil at her elder sister’s workplace to relieve the symptoms she was feeling after swallowing the poison at home, neighbors reportedly began to notice her strange behavior.

Her sister disregarded her at first as she was unaware of the reason, but she eventually raised an alarm that drew sympathizers to the area.

According to an eyewitness, Timilehin eventually admitted to taking poison at home before visiting her sister’s office while en route to the hospital.

According to reports, she earned higher than her present score of 190 in the 2024 JAMB exam.

Ironically, she was certified dead at Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan almost half an hour after JAMB granted her provisional admission.

The source said, “The shocking revelation is that yesterday, right after she was confirmed dead at Kolak Hospital, Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos, she received an admission message via her Gmail.”

After learning the tragic news, Timilehin’s parents reportedly traveled to Ikorodu to retrieve her remains and take them back to Abeokuta for burial, leaving the locals to blame JAMB.
