UTME Mass Failure: JAMB Teams Up with VCs & IT Experts to Investigate Alleged Technical Glitches
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has opened an investigation into purported technology issues in response to several complaints of subpar performance in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
To identify the underlying cause and guarantee that impacted applicants receive the proper corrections if any inaccuracies were verified, the board was also working with vice chancellors and IT specialists.
This was revealed in a statement released on Monday by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor.
According to LEADERSHIP, there was public outcry after more than 1.5 million of the 1.9 million applicants who took the UTME this year received scores below 200 out of 400.
The board announced that it was accelerating its yearly system evaluation, a thorough post-mortem of the examination procedure that is usually carried out months after the exercise, in a statement headlined “Re: Public Complaint Regarding the Release of the 2025 UTME.”
The three main phases of the investigation—registration, examination, and result release—will be included in the review, according to JAMB.
The examination board stated that it was especially worried about odd complaints coming from a select few states in the Federation and was presently looking into these matters closely to find and fix any technological flaws.
We have enlisted a number of experts to help with this process, including vice chancellors from different institutions, chief external examiners (who are in charge of tertiary institutions), members of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, and measurement specialists.
“If it turns out that there were issues, we will take the necessary corrective action as soon as possible, just like we do with the exams themselves,” he promised.
