2025 UTME: Blind Candidate Hires Visually Impaired Undergraduate to Sit for Exam — JAMB Uncovers

A blind candidate paid another blind person to take the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on his behalf, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

JAMB registrar Ishaq Oloyede gave an update on the conduct and results of the 2025 UTME at a press event in Abuja on Friday.

According to Oloyede, the event happened when blind candidates were being examined under the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), which makes it easier for candidates with disabilities to take inclusive tests.

According to him, 11 centers across the country successfully tested 501 visually impaired individuals.

He claimed, “Unfortunately, one of them also engaged in impersonation by enlisting a blind undergraduate student to come and write for another blind candidate.”

The registrar was disappointed by the development, pointing out that it demonstrates a desperate attempt to gain access to higher education.

He stated that in addition to covering transportation, lodging, and meals during the exam session, JAMB reimburses the registration expenses for applicants who are blind or have other disabilities.

He underlined the board’s commitment to helping candidates with special needs.

“The board is still dedicated to giving people with disabilities the assistance they need to pursue higher education,” Oloyede stated.

“Despite their difficulties, the JEOG, led by Prof. Peter Okebukola, continues to show remarkable dedication in making sure that these candidates can sit for exams.” On Friday, the results of the 2025 UTME were made public, and more than 1.9 million applicants received their scores.

However, 39,834 contestants’ results have not been made public.

Before the announcement, JAMB said that more than 40 people had been arrested for their roles in exam fraud.
