2025 UTME: Only 21.5% Scored Above 200 as JAMB Probes 2,157 Candidates for Malpractice!

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the official statistical analysis of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (2025 UTME) results.

Only 21.5% of the nation’s more than 1.95 million registered candidates received scores higher than 200.

On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Board made the news using its official X handle.

 

Performance breakdown 

From the total of 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the exam, the data showed:

  • 4,756 candidates (0.24%) scored 320 and above
  • 7,658 (0.39%) scored between 300–319
  • 73,441 (3.76%) scored between 250–299
  • 334,560 (17.11%) scored between 200–249
  • 983,187 (50.29%) scored between 160–199
  • 488,197 (24.97%) scored between 140–159

This shows that 420,415 applicants, or almost 21.5% of the 1,955,069 who took the test, received scores above 200, while nearly 78.5% received scores of 200 or lower.

 

Underage candidates

Only 467 (1.16%) of the 40,247 juvenile candidates who were given special permission to take the 2025 UTME to demonstrate their remarkable academic talents fulfilled the Board’s criterion, according to JAMB. #

40,247 juvenile applicants were allowed to showcase their extraordinary skills as part of the findings. Although their success in the next three phases is still uncertain, only 467 of these candidates (1.16%) received scores that fulfill the UTME’s criteria for exceptional ability.

97 registered candidates engaged in examination violations, and 2,157 more are presently being investigated for possible malpractice.

There were also 71,701 absent applicants. The Board stated, “Those who are cleared will be rescheduled for examination at designated centers, and those who are facing biometric challenges are also under investigation.”

Their advancement into the following three evaluation phases is still pending and will be monitored in later updates.

Examinee misbehavior

The board disclosed that 2,157 candidates are presently under investigation for possible malpractice, and 97 candidates were found to have engaged in direct examination violations.

According to the agency, “97 out of the total number of candidates who were registered were involved in examination infractions, and 2,157 others are currently undergoing investigations for suspected malpractices.”

71,701 candidates did not show up for the test, according to JAMB. Biometric verification problems were mentioned in a lot of these cases. Candidates with unresolved biometric issues are being investigated, the board stated, and those who pass will be rescheduled to take the UTME at authorized locations.

“Those who are cleared will be rescheduled for examination at designated centers, and those who are facing biometric challenges are also being investigated,” JAMB promised.

According to JAMB, some results are still being processed, especially for candidates who are blind or who belong to the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG).

The Board stated that after the evaluation is finished, all outstanding results will be made public.
