Inspiring! Over 190 Physically Challenged Candidates Sit for 2025 UTME in Lagos and Kano

In locations throughout Lagos and Kano states, 193 candidates with physical disabilities took the recently finished 2025 University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) established 11 specialized centers for applicants with physical disabilities around the country to ensure a smooth 2025 UTME. Lagos, Ogun, and Kano states were home to a few of these centers.

101 participants with physical disabilities took the test in Lagos. In contrast, there were roughly 92 visually handicapped candidates at the Kano center.

Candidates in Kano took their exam at the School of Continuing Education, Bayero University Kano (BUK), under the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) for special needs candidates, while those in Lagos took theirs at the Distance Learning Institute of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) over the course of two days.

The candidates in the Kano center were selected from the states of Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, and Kaduna, according to Yahuza-Bello, a former BUK vice chancellor.

He added that out of the 92 candidates, two have Down syndrome, while two others have autism.

They were provided with numerous tools to facilitate their assessment, such as typewriters, braille machines, slates, styluses, and paper.

Speaking about how JAMB helped the physically challenged candidates in Lagos, Professor Lanre Fagbohun, coordinator of the Lagos Center, which includes Ogun State and Lagos, mentioned that the board covered the candidates’ lodging and transportation costs.

“The special candidates and their one accompanying guide are escorted into their hotel rooms that have been prepared for them in advance of their arrival, and they are served dinner at the expense of JAMB,” Fagbohun stated.

“JAMB-JEOG also fully covers the cost of transportation, logistics, and other expenses between their hotel rooms and the testing facility.

It’s also important to note that an ambulance is available and that any potential health emergencies are anticipated.

He added that, based on the candidate’s challenge, they were provided with the necessary assistance facilities.
