JAMB Disowns Fake Bank Account, Sets New Exam Date for Candidates with Biometric Issues
A bogus bank account that was allegedly used to defraud applicants requesting postponed exams for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been disowned by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, released a statement on Thursday in which the examination board dissociated itself from Sterling Bank account number 85017, which has been connected to a scheme that targets applicants who did not take the UTME.
The letter claims that suspected scammers have been requesting N15,700 from gullible applicants, stating the funds are for rescheduling exams.
The statement said, “This is a clear scam.” ” We implore the public to avoid falling for such dishonest strategies. The perpetrators of this scam are not connected to JAMB or any other reputable government organization. The aforementioned account is only used fraudulently and has no affiliation with any official procedures.
JAMB said it has reported the issue to security agencies, who are attempting to find the culprits, and urged Sterling Bank to move quickly to close the account.
The board also provided clarification on its exam rescheduling policy, stressing that it does not reschedule exams for applicants who are unable to attend for personal reasons.
“But we are looking into candidates who were unable to take the test because of biometric verification issues,” the statement continued. “Those who have their discrepancies resolved will be allowed to retake the exam at no additional cost—no payment is necessary.”
In addition to cautioning that it does not impose any further costs after registration is complete, JAMB asked applicants to exercise caution and report any suspicious conduct.
