Big Win! NUC Approves 12 New Courses for Nigerian Universities—See Full List

In response to shifting global trends and to help Nigerian students acquire skills that would help them land jobs, the National Universities Commission (NUC), which oversees and approves university programs in Nigeria, plans to launch 12 new courses.

According to a Blueprint reporter’s investigation, AI, Classical Christian Education, Community Health Science, Cooperative Economics and Management Studies, Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science, Geomatics Engineering, Intelligence and Security Studies, Parasitology and Entomology, Sports Management, Telecommunication Science, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, and Islamic Economics and Finance are among the courses.

Under the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), the new courses will be introduced to the current university framework; however, NUC will need input and permission from important figures in the education sector.

As part of a broader initiative to enhance university education in Nigeria, the NUC will direct the implementation of these courses throughout all institutions in the nation.

Since courses like artificial intelligence (AI) and telecommunication science will guarantee that Nigerian universities meet the rapidly evolving demands of the global economy, the new courses aim to produce graduates who are prepared to take on contemporary issues and significantly contribute to the workforce.

Students and instructors are expected to prepare for changes in the way subjects are taught and learned as schools get ready to launch these new courses. This would provide young Nigerians with additional options both domestically and outside.
