Tension Rises as ASUU Branch Gears Up for Another Strike — Students on Edge!

This was said in a statement released to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday and signed by the union’s head, Peter Adamu.
Due to several unsolved issues with the state government, the Kaduna State University (KASU) section of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is about to go on strike once more.

This was said in a statement released to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday and signed by the union’s head, Peter Adamu.

The union had started an indefinite strike on February 18 over certain unresolved concerns, but it was called off after six days, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Mr. Adamu, the Kaduna State Government’s cancellation of two planned meetings with ASUU raised questions about how committed it was to finding a solution.
Withheld salaries for May through September 2022, unpaid SIWES supervision allowances, earned academic allowances, promotion arrears, and pension remittances were among the unresolved concerns he mentioned.
He added that these included financial autonomy, wage award and consequence adjustment wages, and group life assurance/death benefits.

He said that ASUU had no option but to think about starting the strike again because the government had gone back to its default settings.
He said that although the agreements made by both sides were flexible, trust is being damaged by the government’s lack of commitment.
