JAMB Confirms: UTME Candidates Can Now Sit for Exams Outside Their State of Registration!
Candidates may take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination anywhere in the nation, regardless of where they registered, according to clarification from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
A false story that said candidates had to take the UTME in the same state where they registered prompted this correction.
The board refuted the assertion in a statement released on Wednesday by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, calling it false and liable to confuse applicants.
Benjamin said, “I explained in a recent interview with a NAN reporter that candidates are not limited to taking the examination within their state of registration.”
“They can choose any examination town across the nation from any registration point, and they can register anywhere in the country.”
He clarified that in order to improve accessibility and convenience, JAMB’s computer-based test centers are arranged by town, enabling candidates to select the one that works best for them.
For instance, a candidate is required to take the exam at Garki if they choose that town as their examination location. Despite what some people say, they cannot be posted to or take the test in a different town,” he stated.
In order to prevent needless worry among candidates—particularly those who chose towns outside of their state of registration—the board emphasized the significance of rectifying the false information.
“To be clear, candidates who have registered for the UTME and chosen examination towns outside of their state of registration are completely allowed to take the test in the places of their choice,” he confirmed.
Benjamin restated that candidates can choose their examination towns regardless of their registration or state of residency because of JAMB’s flexible registration procedure.
An applicant may register in Lagos, for example, and decide to take the test in Sokoto or any other location in the nation. The purpose of this flexibility is to improve the testing process’s convenience and satisfy personal preferences,” he continued.
Finally, he reaffirmed JAMB’s dedication to openness and candidate-friendly rules and urged the public to ignore the false allegation.
