Scam Alert! JAMB Warns UTME Candidates About Fraudulent Messages Circulating Online

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed concern about the spread of illicit, deceptive, and false information directed at applicants for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2025.

According to the board, suspected fraudsters were spreading the communications in an attempt to trick gullible people.
“They have been sending candidates false messages through this fraudulent scheme, claiming to have detected manipulations in their JAMB details and urging them to contact certain individuals who will ‘assist’ in resolving these fabricated issues,” he claimed.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin claimed that the criminals had created a false sort code that imitates JAMB’s official messaging system by taking advantage of the numerical variant of UTME, 8863, and combining it with the Board’s sort number, 55019.

“They have been sending candidates false messages through this fraudulent scheme, claiming to have detected manipulations in their JAMB details and urging them to contact certain individuals who will ‘assist’ in resolving these fabricated issues,” he claimed.

We would like to make it clear that JAMB is not the source of these emails. Security organizations have been alerted and are actively pursuing the scammers.

He cautioned the students to disregard these messages, characterizing them as a typical strategy used by scammers who aim to take advantage of the exam period to trick and mislead unsuspecting applicants.

“The public is encouraged to maintain their vigilance and critically evaluate the messages they are exposed to.” Benjamin continued that any correspondence that deviates from JAMB’s established protocols or employs dubious terminology or directives must be regarded as fake.
