Relief for Students as Kaduna Varsity ASUU Suspends Strike — Academic Activities to Resume!

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at Kaduna State University (KASU) has called off the strike that was started on February 18.

The chairman of the ASUU, KASU branch, Dr. Peter Adamu, made this announcement on Monday.

Adamu stated that on Saturday, the decision was made to halt the activity.

By promptly providing money to pay 60% of the September 2017 delayed salary and the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) supervision allowance for five sessions, the government showed goodwill in settling the deadlock.

“A timeline for the payment of the five months, May to September 2022, withheld salaries, promotion arrears, Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), pension remittance (2009 to 2019), death benefits, and group life assurance was also agreed upon by the government,” he stated.

Adamu added that the government has shown its commitment to granting the university autonomy and implementing wage awards.

The Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, was commended by the union for his prompt action and leadership in resolving the problems that sparked the strike.

The university administration, commissioners for education and sports, and other interested parties were also praised by the union for their contributions to a speedy conclusion to the standoff.

Adamu urged all faculty members to return to work and carry on providing the university community with their priceless services.
