JAMB Sets Trap with Decoy Website as 211,000 Candidates Sit for 2025 UTME Mock!
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, or JAMB, has reported that at least 211,000 applicants from all around Nigeria took the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Mock on Thursday.
As a prelude to the main UTME, which is set to start on April 25, 2025, the mock exam was administered at several approved computer-based tests, or CBT centers, around the country.
JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede, who was observing the activity at a CBT center in Bwari, Abuja, stated that the mock exam went well and that the results would be made public on Friday, April 11.
“The findings will be available tomorrow. We’re working on them already. To make sure everything functions flawlessly, we wish to compare with the second and third batches,” Oloyede said.
He clarified that the purpose of the mock UTME was not just to help candidates get ready but also to provide the board a chance to test new ideas and pinpoint areas that needed work before the actual test.
“As students are getting wiser, we are also getting better. We experiment with fresh tactics and learn from this mock,” he continued.
In a daring attempt to stop exam cheating, JAMB announced that it has set up a spoof website to lure applicants who are trying to use rogue platforms to obtain unfair advantages. According to Oloyede, 180 candidates have already been identified after paying money to the phony website in the hopes of receiving leaked questions.
“We’ve opened our rogue website. As of this morning, about 180 students have paid into it. Attempting to cheat is already an offense, and we will deal firmly with them,” the registrar warned, adding, “We are going to cancel their results — both UTME and Direct Entry. We want to send a clear message that exam fraud will not be tolerated.”
Since the UTME is not a school-based exam, he advised candidates not to share their registration numbers or register via proxy.
“Even when the process is defective, some schools prefer to boast about their high ratings. In one instance, the governor himself was deceived and applauded results that had been altered. He declared, “We are clamping down hard because we are fully aware of these tricks.”
Additionally, Professor Oloyede bemoaned the fact that scammers were charging up to ₦30,000 for fictitious help, defrauding some desperate candidates.
Some of them are spending money on an unworkable endeavor. He remarked, “I just smile when I see people who have paid to our decoy site.”
He reaffirmed JAMB’s dedication to equity, openness, and honesty in Nigeria’s university admissions process and advised applicants to avoid using any unlawful shortcuts and to concentrate entirely on their studies.
Candidates and the public were reassured by the board that every effort is being made to guarantee a credible and seamless 2025 UTME.
