JAMB 2025: STRICT GUIDELINES FOR FINGERPRINT SCANNING AND BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION IN THE JAMB 2025 UTME

For the JAMB 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released stringent requirements on fingerprint scanning and biometric verification. These steps are intended to preserve the integrity of the examination procedure, provide transparency, and stop fraud.

Biometric verification is still required for both registration and entrance into the exam room, according to JAMB 2025. Regardless of any additional documents they may have, candidates who are unable to pass biometric verification will not be allowed to take the test. This action is a component of JAMB’s larger initiative to eradicate misconduct, including impersonation, that has afflicted past exam cycles.

The application of henna, commonly referred to as “Laali” or “Lale,” on candidates’ fingers is one of the main topics covered in the rules. Henna designs can seriously hinder the fingerprint scanning procedure, leading to delays and possible disqualification during registration and the test, according to JAMB 2025. The Board also pointed out that candidates may unintentionally harm their finger whorls while trying to remove henna with powerful chemicals, making biometric verification impossible.

Therefore, before and during the registration and exam periods, candidates are highly encouraged to refrain from applying henna or any similar substance on their fingertips. The biometric verification technology is extremely sensitive and depends on precise fingerprint recognition to confirm candidates’ identities, JAMB emphasized.

Candidates must also keep their fingertips clean and free of scars or injuries that can obstruct the scanning procedure. Candidates who have any damage to their fingerprints that might prevent biometric verification will not be permitted to continue with the test.

Additionally, JAMB urged applicants to follow the instructions for creating their profiles by texting their 11-digit NIN number to 55019, followed by a space. This phase minimizes delays brought on by mistakes or missing information and guarantees a seamless registration procedure.
