NECO, UI, and 22 other items are being left out of the 2025 budget by the Reps committee.
Due to their inability to account for funds allotted to them in 2024 and prior years, the National Examinations Council (NECO), the University of Ibadan (UI), and 22 other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) have been recommended to be excluded from the 2025 budget by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Committee Chairman Bamidele Salam disclosed this information. He characterized the impacted agencies’ actions as a lack of financial discipline and accused them of continuously refusing requests to provide an explanation of how they used previous budgetary allocations.
“The Public Accounts Committee has a mandate to ensure accountability, probity, and efficiency in the use of resources allocated to ministries, departments, and agencies as a constitutional committee of the House,” Salam stated.
He pointed out that a number of agencies had turned “recalcitrant,” declining to comply with repeated requests to provide accounts of the money that was given to them for budgets from 2020, 2021, and 2022.
