Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), through its Centre for Distance Learning (OAUCDL), is still accepting applications for the 2026/2027 JUPEB and Pre-Degree foundation programmes. The current OAUCDL registration hub lists Saturday, 31 October 2026 as the closing date for both programmes. That gives interested candidates time to prepare, but applicants should complete registration early because the university portal is the final place to confirm the live status of the application window.
The programmes are not the same as regular undergraduate admission. JUPEB is an advanced-level route that can lead to Direct Entry consideration, usually into 200 Level, while Pre-Degree is a preparatory programme for candidates working towards 100 Level admission. Both are run by OAUCDL and require candidates to satisfy the conditions of the university or other institution where they eventually seek admission.

What is the difference between JUPEB and Pre-Degree?
JUPEB
JUPEB is a one-session programme built around three relevant subjects and General Studies. After the programme and the JUPEB examination, a successful candidate may use the certificate for Direct Entry admission, subject to the requirements, available spaces and approval of the university or programme chosen. OAUCDL says candidates can seek the route into 200 Level at OAU, another Nigerian university or a participating institution abroad.
JUPEB does not remove the need to meet the requirements of the target degree programme. A candidate targeting Medicine, Engineering, Law or another competitive course should check the destination university’s current Direct Entry rules, subject combination and minimum grade requirements before choosing a JUPEB combination.
Pre-Degree
Pre-Degree is a preparatory programme for candidates who want structured coaching before university admission. OAUCDL describes it as an intensive programme based on UTME-level subjects. Candidates still need to register for and sit JAMB UTME, meet the required score for their intended course and satisfy O’Level and other admission conditions. Completion of Pre-Degree is therefore not an automatic offer of regular OAU admission.
Who can apply?
OAUCDL’s programme information states that applicants should have at least five O’Level credit passes in subjects relevant to the intended course, obtained in one or two sittings. The detailed subject requirements depend on the pathway:
- Science options: relevant credits in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- Social Science options: relevant credits including Mathematics and the subjects needed for the chosen course.
- Arts options: relevant credits in subjects such as Government, Literature in English and Religious Studies, depending on the selected combination.
- English Language: Pre-Degree students take English as a compulsory subject in the programme structure.
Applicants should download and read the current programme requirements before choosing a combination. Meeting the basic O’Level threshold does not guarantee admission into a particular OAU degree programme.

These combinations describe the foundation programme and should not be treated as a substitute for checking the JAMB brochure or the final university admission requirements for a particular degree.
Fees and payment information
The OAUCDL FAQ lists the application form at ₦20,000. It also lists programme charges for the 2026/2027 cycle as follows: Pre-Degree, including hostel, ₦434,000; JUPEB Sciences, including hostel, ₦594,000; and JUPEB Arts and Humanities, including hostel, ₦544,000. The FAQ says these programme totals are payable in two instalments.
Applicants should confirm the amount displayed on their portal or official invoice before making payment. Do not pay through an agent, social-media account or personal bank account. Use the OAUCDL registration portal linked from the official Foundation page and keep the payment reference and application details.

What happens after applying?
Applicants should expect an entrance examination or screening process as directed by OAUCDL. The official FAQ describes an objective examination based on WAEC or UTME-level material in the selected subjects, with English included for Pre-Degree. The exact date and time should be taken from the candidate’s examination slip or portal dashboard rather than from an unofficial timetable.
For the online examination, candidates should prepare a functioning device, a reliable internet connection, a quiet and well-lit space and any webcam or microphone requirements stated by the centre. A candidate whose examination date conflicts with another official examination should contact OAUCDL through the official support details instead of missing the test without notice.
