Alausa Launches ₦50m Grant for Student Startups

Minister of Education Unveils Student Venture Capital Grant Offering Up to ₦50 Million for Nigerian Student Enterprises.

Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, has formally introduced the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), which provides Nigerian students the chance to secure up to ₦50 million in investment for their entrepreneurial ventures.

During the launch event in Abuja on Monday, Alausa highlighted that this initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at empowering young people and promoting innovation.

In his address, Alausa referred to the S-VCG as a government initiative geared towards supporting innovations and startups spearheaded by students through funding, mentorship, and increased visibility.

“Those who benefit from the Student Venture Capital Grant will receive a comprehensive support package aimed at enhancing their prospects of creating sustainable and scalable businesses,” he stated.

“This will include a seed investment of up to ₦50 million, which is equity-free, along with an extensive incubation program and guidance from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts.

“The initiative is available to students from all federal, state, and private tertiary institutions, encompassing undergraduate students in their third year and above, as well as master’s and doctoral candidates.

“Your enterprises must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and the projects must focus on STEMM fields—Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences.”

The application portal for the S-VCG opened on 17 November 2025, encouraging students from various institutions to apply.

Eligible applicants should be in their third year or above, have projects aligned with STEMM, and ensure their businesses are CAC-registered.

Those chosen will move to a second phase, where they will present their business ideas to a panel of 12 industry experts. The application portal will close on 23 January 2026.
