Plateau Orders Immediate Closure of Schools for Safety

The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) has mandated the immediate closure of all basic schools throughout the state as an urgent precautionary measure to protect students and communities.

This directive, issued by Richard Nanpon Jonah, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) on behalf of the board’s management, was shared with journalists on Friday in Jos and applies to Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs), primary schools, and day schools.

As stated by PSUBEB, Government Junior Model Secondary Schools will close starting Saturday, 22 November 2025, while all primary and day schools will cease operations beginning Monday, 24 November 2025.

“The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) has ordered the closure of schools statewide as follows: Government Junior Model Secondary Schools (GJMSSs) will close from Saturday, 22 November 2025. Primary and day schools will close starting Monday, 24 November 2025,” the statement mentioned.

The Board characterized this action as a “temporary yet essential measure” aimed at preventing potential threats.

The Board reassured parents, guardians, and stakeholders that ensuring the safety and well-being of students remains the government’s highest priority. It acknowledged that while the closure may cause some inconvenience, it is a proactive step designed to alleviate concerns and bolster community confidence.

PSUBEB also urged local government education authorities, school leaders, and community heads to fully adhere to this directive.

“The Board requests all local government education authorities, school leaders, and community heads to fully comply with this directive and stay vigilant.”

Additionally, the Board called for increased watchfulness during the closure period to ensure that any emerging risks are quickly reported and managed.

It highlighted that this decision reflects the government’s dedication to safeguarding children and maintaining a secure learning environment.

PSUBEB assured that information regarding the reopening of schools will be shared in due time.
