FG Confirms JAMB Still Mandatory for Admissions

The Federal Government, on Thursday, refuted claims circulating on various media platforms that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer necessary for admission into Nigeria’s higher education institutions.

In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education through its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, referred to the report as “false and completely made up”, emphasizing that the Ministry did not issue or approve any such announcement.

The minister stated that JAMB continues to be the legally recognized and sole authority authorized to conduct entrance examinations and manage admissions into all tertiary institutions across the country.

“To clarify, JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered organization responsible for conducting entrance exams and overseeing admissions into all higher education institutions in Nigeria,” Dr Alausa said.

“The established admission processes through JAMB continue to function as usual, and any opposing information should be completely disregarded.”

The minister reiterated the ministry’s steadfast collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to ensure transparency, fairness, and merit within Nigeria’s tertiary education admission system, noting the federal government’s commitment to preserving the integrity of the process.

The ministry also encouraged students, parents, and tertiary institutions to depend solely on the official communication channels of the ministry and JAMB for precise information regarding admission policies and education-related issues.

The ministry warned media organizations, bloggers, and online platforms against disseminating unverified information, cautioning that such actions could lead to unnecessary confusion within the education sector.

“The Federal Ministry of Education stresses that there has been no alteration in JAMB’s existing role, which remains vital and fundamental in Nigeria’s higher education framework,” the statement added.

The ministry urged the public to visit the official websites and verified social media profiles of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for authentic updates on educational matters.
