The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which administers the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), has identified the six states with the greatest rates of exam misconduct.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, stated at a press briefing over the weekend that the states of Lagos and Anambra had the highest rates of exam misconduct.
He revealed that 80 suspects of examination misconduct from various states are presently being questioned.
Lagos comes in second with nine arrests, while Anambra leads the list with fourteen.
The registrar further mentioned that there were 13 recorded instances of impersonation and one involving mismatched photos in Anambra.
The suspects of exam misconduct who were arrested in Lagos were found guilty of spying, impersonating, and unlawfully possessing cell phones during the test.
During the exam, impersonation and phone possession were reported in 8, 7, 6, and Delta, Kano, Kaduna, and Rivers, respectively.
During the UTME registration and exam stages, Oloyede also disclosed that applicants created new fraud strategies.
According to him, some of these new fraud strategies include attempts to replace oneself with an impostor, double registration, biometric manipulation, and the use of combined thumbprints between candidates and impersonators.
He went on to say that several computer-based test (CBT) centers were allegedly involved in this.
The following is a list of the states with the highest examination malpractice cases:
- Anambra
- Lagos
- Delta
