The University of Abuja is renamed Yakubu Gowon University\u2014Tinubu.<\/h4>\n

President Bola Tinubu has approved the renaming of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) to Yakubu Gowon University. He did this in honor of Nigeria\u2019s former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), who recently marked his 90th birthday.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this decision to State House correspondents on Monday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.<\/p>\n

According to Idris, the renaming recognizes Gowon\u2019s enduring contributions to Nigeria\u2019s unity and his commitment to the country\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n

He also revealed that the proposal for the renaming will be forwarded to the National Assembly for formal approval.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis decision reflects the government\u2019s appreciation for the remarkable leadership and service General Gowon provided during a critical time in our nation\u2019s history,\u201d Idris said.<\/p>\n

The renaming aligns with President Tinubu\u2019s ongoing initiative to honor prominent figures whose legacies have shaped Nigeria\u2019s history and development.<\/p>\n
