ASUU-LASU announces an indefinite strike.<\/h4>\n

The Lagos State University Ojo chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has initiated a complete and indefinite strike to protest because its members have not received the 25\u201335 percent pay increase approved by the federal government since January 2023.<\/p>\n

The union protested that the agreement had been implemented \u201cas of this moment\u201d in all 18 state institutions and all federal universities in a statement issued yesterday and signed by ASUU-LASU Secretary Dr. Sylvester Idowu and Chairman Prof. Ibrahim Bakare.<\/p>\n

Employees at Lagos State University of Science and Technology and Lagos State University of Education were paid more than those at LASU long before they were promoted to university status, according to the statement, which was another factor in the strike\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n

The union demanded that the pay differences in the three institutions be equalized.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut implementation has remained a pipe dream,\u201d it said, referring to the study that was submitted by the government-appointed committee that was assigned to offer suggestions to unify compensation.<\/p>\n

While the state government and the institution were working to fix the situation, ASUU-LASU advised students to show a high level of maturity, unity, and understanding in the matter.<\/p>\n

It urged students to ignore a statement signed by the public relations officer and president of the LASU Students\u2019 Union on December 7, 2024, stating that classes are still held at LASU despite the SSANU and NASU strikes.<\/p>\n

\u201cA letter to this effect, jointly signed by all the staff unions at LASU, has been sent not only to the Vice Chancellor but also to Mr. Governor, who is visiting our university,\u201d the union continued. \u201cThe announcement of the strike by ASUU-LASU is following the decision of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of all the workers\u2019 unions in the university.\u201d<\/p>\n
