WAEC Urges Candidates with Withheld Certificates to Submit Evidence via Official Portal
Instead of bringing unsubstantiated accusations against the examination body, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has recommended that applicants whose certificates were denied by the council submit their arguments through the notice of examination malpractice portal.
In response to a mother’s request that the council release her son’s certificate immediately because the boy is experiencing depression due to the withheld certificate, WAEC revealed this in a statement signed by Moyosola Adesina, acting head of public affairs at WAEC, Nigeria, on Thursday, June 12.
“A publication on the topic that appeared in the national dailies caught WAEC’s notice.
As a company that takes pride in providing high-quality services to Nigerian children, we have read the publication with great worry and have made the decision to speak out about the occurrence. We want to make the facts clear and vehemently deny this assertion.
“The council does not arbitrarily deny a candidate’s results. The results of any impacted candidates are withheld until investigations are conducted once WAEC receives a report on examination malpractice and other irregularities pertaining to the administration of an exam.
Part of the statement is, “The impacted candidates are then informed of the accusations against them, and they are encouraged to submit their defenses through the WAEC Notice of Examinations Malpractice portal.”
Furthermore, WAEC clarified that press releases announcing the results of each exam, as well as the council’s social media accounts, always include information on the notice of examination malpractice portal.
Additionally, the council stressed that registration materials and briefing session notes are used to inform candidates and examination officials before each exam day.
“All reported cases of examination malpractice are investigated by the rules and regulations for dealing with cases of irregularities in the council’s examinations under the law,” the statement read. “The West African Examinations Council is a law-abiding organization that follows due process in all its activities.”
Furthermore, WAEC assured Nigerians that, as a premier examining organization that seeks to advance the educational objectives of its stakeholders, the council will keep doing everything in its power to raise the standard of assessment to raise the standard of education in Nigeria.
