WAEC Apologizes for Delay in 2025 WASSCE English & Other Papers—Here’s What Happened
The current West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been delayed, especially for English Language Paper 2, which was administered on Wednesday, May 28. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has apologized for the delays.
In a statement signed by Moyosola Adesina, WAEC’s Ag. Head of Public Affairs, the council revealed this and acknowledged the difficulties encountered in administering the WASSCE for school candidates in 2025, including the postponement of the English Language Paper 2 deadline.
WAEC clarified that the council encountered several difficulties in upholding the security and integrity of the test, mainly because its main goal was to stop any paper from leaking.
However, while it successfully achieved its purpose, the exercise inadvertently hindered the timing and flawless conduct of the examination.
Our operations were adversely affected by logistical challenges, security issues, and cultural considerations, despite our best efforts. The council is already working with security authorities to stop similar incidents in the future.
Part of the statement says, “We acknowledge the significance of conducting exams on time and the effect this decision will have on the candidates, their schools, and their parents.” We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Furthermore, WAEC conveyed its gratitude to all stakeholders for their understanding and assistance throughout this time.
“We will continue to encourage academic excellence and are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in the administration of exams,” WAEC said.
