UNIPORT Alumni Association Unveils Bold Plans to Drive University Growth and Excellence!

The Alumni Association of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has taken steps to reinvest and reposition itself to foster impact and promote the advancement of the institution.

In this regard, the association has officially inaugurated its Board of Trustees for the term 2025–2029, with Tonye Princewill, a former Labour Party candidate for the governorship of Rivers State, designated as the chairman of the Board.

Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the association’s national president and former minority whip in the Nigerian Senate, characterized the inauguration as a pivotal moment in the association’s growth.

“Today, we are establishing a board that will function as the moral guide, legal support, and strategic protector of our long-term vision,” he expressed.

The newly formed Board of Trustees is led by Prince Tonye T.J.T. Princewill, a notable politician, business leader, and devoted supporter of the Uniport Alumni Association. Additional board members include Dr. Patterson Ogon, Hon. Anayo Nwonu, Mr. Samson Akpibere, Mr. Austin Okeze, and Ms. Chiadikobi Emmanuella-King.

Senator Nwokocha praised both the individual and collective qualifications of the board members, asserting that their endorsement by Congress reflects the significant trust and reputation they hold within the alumni community.

“We will rely on your wise advice, thorough evaluations, and strategic alignment as we pursue our vision to reconnect, reinvest, and reposition the Uniport Alumni Association,” he continued.

The president also introduced four flagship initiatives aimed at driving the association’s developmental agenda in the coming years.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the National Executive Council, chapter presidents, and distinguished alumni from around the world, and stakeholders deemed it historic.

In response on behalf of the board, Chairman Prince Tonye Princewill conveyed his humility and deep sense of duty in accepting the role.

“We are here not to govern, but to assist; to act as stewards of integrity, protectors of trust, and collaborators in the advancement of this association,” Princewill stated during his acceptance address.

He reaffirmed the board’s dedication to working collaboratively with the National Executive Committee to ensure alignment, transparency, and accountability in the execution of the association’s strategic objectives.

“Beyond the constitutional framework lies a profound responsibility: to lead with empathy, to act with integrity, and to ensure that every choice we make fortifies the foundation of this association for future generations,” he added.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a renewed appeal for unity, excellence, and a shared purpose among all alumni, as the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association embarks on what many view as a new chapter of significance and influence.

The board members are set to serve a single four-year term.
