NECO Acquires Advanced OMR Scanner to Strengthen Exam Security Nationwide

To improve the effectiveness, legitimacy, and security of its exams, the National Examinations Council (NECO) purchased a high-performance optical mark recognition (OMR) scanner.

During Thursday’s opening of the recently installed scanning machine at the ICT Department in Minna, the capital of Niger State, NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, made the announcement.

The Council is working to increase the accuracy, speed, and dependability of its examination process, according to a statement released by the Registrar, Azeez Sani, the Ag. Director, Information and Public Relations, NECO.

According to Prof. Wushishi, the Scantron Insight 1500c is a high-performance OMR scanner that is renowned for its accuracy, speed, and capacity to manage substantial script volumes.

“We will greatly improve our data processing capabilities with this new addition, guaranteeing faster and more accurate results processing for millions of candidates worldwide,” Wushishi said.

He claims that the recently purchased scanner can scan more than 15,000 OMR sheets an hour and 250 sheets per minute.

The scanning device, which cost over N500 million, can concurrently scan and score OMR sheets, according to the Registrar.

The purchase of the high-speed scanner, according to Prof. Wushishi, is evidence of NECO’s dedication to utilizing technology in all aspects of its examination procedures.

The purchase of the new scanner, according to Mr. Goddy Usioboh, Director of the ICT Department, is in line with NECO’s mission to provide top-notch examination services while upholding the integrity of its evaluation.

Mr. Tom Harry, the technical adviser from Scantron Company in Minnesota, USA, who instructed the ICT Department’s employees on how to use the new scanning equipment, was pleased with the staff’s high degree of commitment and hard work throughout the training.
