JAMB Kicks Off 2025 UTME for Over 2 Million Candidates Nationwide!
With a few minor hiccups in certain testing locations, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has begun administering the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the country.
More than 2,030,627 applicants who successfully enrolled for the UTME will take the test at more than 784 JAMB-run Computer-Based Testing (CBT) centers spread throughout the Federal Capital Territory and all 36 states of the Federation, according to JAMB.
Although the exercise is mainly seamless, a visit to a few test centers in the Federal Capital Territory showed that there were a few minor hiccups at the beginning in some of the CBT centers, particularly with regard to connection issues, which were quickly resolved by the technical officers assigned to the centers.
Candidates who arrived as early as 6 a.m. for those slated for the 7 a.m. session were screened at the school’s entrance gate, making the examination process at Zinaria International School Mararaba, Nasarawa State, orderly and peaceful when Nigerian Tribune visited.
Through the joint efforts of the school’s internal security guards and the officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who were deployed to the various centers in order to ensure watertight security across the country as part of the collaborative arrangement with JAMB, parents and relatives of candidates who accompanied them were also remarkably kept at bay and denied entry into the school premises.
Before being permitted to take the test, the candidates underwent a biometric screening process.
Jamila Karimu, the CBT Center’s Biometric Verification Registration Officer, reported that the biometric verification process went smoothly and that 238 of the 250 candidates who were scheduled to attend the first session were successfully screened, while 12 candidates did not show up.
Comfort Ochepo, an external supervisor, attested to the exam’s flawless execution at the center. She added that apart from 2-3 candidates who originally had difficulty with thumb printing, they got successful after repeated trials. “Everything is proceeding as planned. In this center, we don’t face any difficulties,” she stated.
She stated that the second session was scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., whereas the first session began as early as 8:10 a.m.
Regarding security, she mentioned that NSCDC officials were sent in to keep the peace during the test in addition to the school security guards.
Additionally, Ramat Ali, the resident monitor, revealed that there were some early connection problems, but they were quickly fixed, and the examination proceeded without any problems.
Susan Arigu, a candidate who was beaming as she left the exam room, praised JAMB for the exam’s well-organized administration.
She said there was no problem logging into the system and that the exercise was seamless.
However, Joseph James, another candidate, stated that he was taking the UTME for the second time after failing to gain admission to the university of his choice the year before.
